1960 Mercedes-Benz 300d Adenauer W189

Seller's description

This Mercedes-Benz 300d Adenauer W189 was first delivered in Bonn on 19 February, 1960. It's been said that it was used as an escort vehicle in motorcades. However, despite the flag holder, the police lamps, the modified engine and the then full-width front bench this cannot be assured.
On 19 April, 1970 the car was sold to a building contractor in Limburg and traveled the roads in a black finish and with green velour interior. It was partly taken out of service here and then (according to entries in cardboard motor vehicle registration certificate). When its owner died, his heirs sold the car to a man from Bonn. At that point it had a finish in black/silver metallic. A few years later the new owner decided to sell the car to its current owner in very poor condition.
Since the purchase in 2000 he has invested more than € 200,000 into the restoration. From a new and overhauled rear axle including a brand new slip joint over the interior of an AT engine, the transition to unleaded fuel, supporting joints and spring struts, shocks, breaks, steering gear, clutch, flywheel, drive shaft, electronic, wood, rubber seals, chrome elements were renewed and the upholstery, speedometer cable, tires and wheel rims were completely renewed. Additionally, the roof was brought to a better condition and a RDS Radio with CD was built in the glove compartment.

In addition, a complete maintenance check was carried out on 27 October, 2015, the oil was changed and all filters including brake- and air filter were exchanged. The car was brought to Swizzöl in Hamburg on 28 October, 2015, where it was entirely touched up including a thorough cleaning of the interior with several layers of polish.
The car's “outer appearance“ can be called “very good considering the age“. The fitting accuracy and overall condition of the chrome parts is “very good“. The chrome parts show slight traces of use and aging.
The cardboard registration certificate specifies a cubic capacity of 2,996 c cm. The current registration certificate, however, indicates 2,975 c cm. Talks with the Technical Control Board (German TÜV) to adjust the capacity to the correct data are pending.
Spare parts: Rubber seals, chrome elements, complete set of tools, jack, mechanic elements, handbook, documents, pictures, complete motor vehicle registration certificate, invoice file, set of winter tires 4x6 mm, comprehensive expertise (a new one issued every two years).
The vehicle has to be paid and collected within 3 business days after the auction. The collection may be made via collection by the costumer or via collection by a transport company. A timely collection can also made via a commissioning of Auctionata to a fee-based transport (flat shipping rate). If the time period lapses without a result, the buyer has to pay storage costs in the amount of 25, - € per day.
