The Ferrari 400 was also an evolution of the 365 GT 2+2 created by Pininfarina in 1972 (the same year of the DeTomaso Longchamp). The design follows the traditional configuration of 3 volumes; one glass cabin and angular lines. An extremely clean design where the only adornment was the lateral line that divides the body in two and gives it lightness and timeless sobriety. The front retractable headlights in- tensified the length of the front and increased the dramatic sobriety of the model. A design that even today is contemporary; not in vane was it one of the most long-lasting designs in the history of Ferrari. The 400 was also a mechanical revolution. Not so much its mechanics, which still included the legendary V12 Colombo engine and 6 Webber carbu- rettors, but its gearbox. It was the first model from Maranello with an automatic gearbox and undoubtedly preferred by the more avant-garde customers of the brand.
